The lazy days of summer are here, and what better way to spend them than in the kitchen whipping up a batch of homemade ice cream?
Sounds like a lot of work, I know, but a lot of the recipes here are actually quite simple. Plus, you’ll know exactly what going into those scoops- that is, preservative-free and whole ingredients!
Don’t worry, not all of these recipes require an ice cream maker. And for those readers with egg allergies (or just a general aversion), here’s a great collection of egg-free ice cream recipes!
Top 5 Egg-Free Ice Cream Recipes
Here’s a beautiful (and vegan!) ice cream sandwich recipe that uses dates and apple sauce as healthy natural sweeteners. The step-by-step photos and instructions are incredibly detailed and thorough, making this more like a Paleo recipe off your favorite cooking channel show. Another yummy vegan and egg-free ice cream recipe, this one is loaded with a delicious spiced nuts mix that is the perfect compliment to a sweet and tasty vanilla coconut ice cream. This one takes a bit of planning ahead, as Melissa highly recommends letting the flavors blend in the fridge overnight. If you’ve got the time (and the patience) then that’s your best bet for an incredibly tasty savory-sweet treat. If you don’t like nuts or suffer from allergies, Melissa recommends replacing them with fruits instead. Some substitution tips are included towards the bottom of the page. Caramelized bananas and toasted hazelnut make for a rich and buttery flavor combo that feels warm in the mouth, despite being packed into a ball of luscious frozen ice cream! Coconut sugar is used to sweeten this creation and a blender, processer and ice cream mixer are all required tools. Besides the risk of overdoing your bananas or over-toasting the hazelnuts, this recipe not overly incredibly and has a very high effort-to-enjoyment ratio. (Photo credit: Josh of Slim Palate.)
This AIP-friendly ice cream recipe uses honey as a natural sweetener. Peaches – my favorite summer fruit – are the star here, added in as whole fruit towards the end of the process. Ginger and clove add an interesting twist and balance well with the vanilla and peachiness. This is another vegan ice cream made with a base of coconut milk. Finally, a great Paleo ice cream recipe that doesn’t require an ice cream maker! Another awesome thing about this one is that it only requires five ingredients (and healthy ones, I might add). The natural sweetener here is honey and the blend of avocado and bananas are sure to make for a great creamy texture. (Photo credit: Cat from Things My Belly Likes.)
