Blood Sugar, Insulin Resistance, & Pre- and Pro-Biotics

Blood Sugar, Insulin Resistance, & Pre- and Pro-Biotics

Partially because probiotics have become such a large industry, there’s a lot of debate over whether or not probiotics are effective. And the debate isn’t surprising.

Nobody has all the answers, but more studies are beginning to shed light on these issues.

Probiotics Make a Big Difference, But Not All the Difference

In this relatively small study, researchers found that the combination of pre-biotics and probiotics made a significant difference in insulin sensitivity and blood sugar regulation.

But they didn’t find that it made any significant difference in weight loss or several other factors.

Here’s the thing. Tons of research shows that gut bacteria is even more important to our health than we ever imagined before. From our adaptive immune system to hormone release and control, gut bacteria affects it all.

What hasn’t been figured out is exactly how to create the best and most beneficial set of bacteria in our guts, especially if that gut bacteria is already disrupted.

However, we’re getting there with studies like this. Improving insulin sensitivity and blood sugar regulation is no joke. It doesn’t solve every health concern, but it’s a step in the right direction.
