Real Life Paleo Meal Plan: Day 15

We headed to Napa this morning (so, lots of frantic packing, forgetting things, going back, and other fun things).

Breakfast: We each had a cup of bone broth (recipe here) in the car driving up to Napa. Jeremy also had some eggs in the morning. We also each had a banana in the car.

Late Lunch: Napa is well known for its wine, but it also has amazingly fresh food, so we headed out of our hotel quickly and started eating!

First stop was Bounty Hunter Wine Bar & Smokin’ BBQ, where we each had a glass of happy hour wine and the BBQ platter (ribs, slaw, pulled pork, and brisket). The wine was around $7 for 2 glasses, and each BBQ platter was $10. There was definitely sugar in the BBQ sauce that was on the meat, and I’m pretty sure the mayo in the slaw wasn’t Paleo, but it wasn’t bad for restaurant food. And it was of course delicious. In fact, Jeremy wanted to get a second plate of BBQ!

Next stop was Carpe Diem Wine Bar, where we shared a glass of Gruner Veltliner (a happy hour wine) and some small plates (charcuterie, short rib tamale – yes it had corn in it!, and some truffle popcorn that we got for free for checking in on Foursquare).

Here’s the charcuterie platter with 12 Month Aged Prosciutto, Loukanika (from Olympic Provisions in Oregon which I’ve eaten at twice (see review here)), Cabernet Salami, Housemade Pork Rillette, and Wild Boar Salami.

Here’s the Cabernet Braised Short Rib Tamales with avocado relish, smoked mozzarella, spicy red sauce, and jicama salad.

And here’s the Truffle Popcorn.

Dinner: We had a late dinner from the Whole Foods in Napa. I got some kale salad, watercress, a boiled egg, some rosemary chicken cooked in olive oil, and some rosemary potatoes cooked in olive oil. We were really happily surprised at how much of the store’s prepared food was cooked in olive oil!

Snack: Drinking alcohol (even just 1 glass of wine) always makes Jeremy and I crave more sweet foods (and more non-Paleo foods). It’s one reason why we try not to drink as much anymore (and if you’re planning to drink alcohol, then you should follow these tips here!). So, we got some 70% chocolate (Whole Foods brand) to snack on while we watched Season 2 of House of Cards (which is a really fantastic drama on Netflix!).
