We spent most of the day eating in Houston! Lunch was at Hubbell & Hudson Bistro and dinner was at the Paleo-inspired Corner Table restaurant, where we met up with Josh from Slim Palate (enter the giveaway for a signed copy of his book here) and chatted to Alyssa Dole (the Pastry Chef at Corner Table).
Breakfast: Jeremy had some scrambled eggs at the hotel buffet for breakfast, and I made do with just a banana later in the car as we had to get going early.
Lunch: We headed to Hubbell & Hudson Bistro, which is in a beautiful area of Houston called The Woodlands.
We started with the Shellfish in the style of Ceviche with Maine Lobster, Scallop, Crab, Shrimp, Yuzu, Micro Cilantro, and Blue Corn Chip (I didn’t eat the chips, but Jeremy tried a few).
Then, I ordered the Herb Marinated Flank Steak with Truffle Potato Purée, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, and Pickled Mustard Seed Demi. It was good, but the steak was sadly a bit too done by the time it came to the table (I think the hot potato puree had overcooked it).
Jeremy ordered the Ora King Salmon with Sunchoke Purée, Bacon Braised Baby Vegetables, Herbed Pistou, and Sunchoke Chip. The salmon was amazing and cooked to perfection!
Dinner: We couldn’t bypass the chance to eat at Corner Table while we were in Houston. As they write on their website, “Corner Table is one of the best Houston restaurants for Paleo cuisine,” and we definitely could not dispute that!
Jeremy started with a sweet potato and leek soup that was amazing.
And I started with the Paleo Buffalo Wings!
For entree, Jeremy went for the Paleo Fish Tacos, which comes with paleo tortillas and was amazing!
I got the Paleo Paella with cauliflower rice, house made chorizo, organic chicken, crispy salmon, shrimp, mussles, saffron, tomatoes, and coconut milk. Delicious!
We generally skip the dessert at restaurants, but when there are amazing Paleo desserts on the menu, we just couldn’t resist! Alyssa wowed us with her delicious upside down cake with a scoop of housemade coconut ice-cream. That went super fast! We also had a paleo donut, which was also really really good but just wasn’t quite as amazing as the cake! Alyssa is constantly improving the desserts at Corner Table, and we had a really great conversation about what Paleo sugars and oils to use.
