For a long time, salmon was the only fish I ever ate. Over the years my palate has branched out a bit to other species of fish, but salmon remains my first and forever favorite. I like it grilled solo, oven-baked with a marinade, or simply served on a bed of leafy salad. It’s full of healthy omegas too which can even help with depression! (Or maybe it’s just that I enjoy eating it and that makes me happy.)

The only disadvantage to buying loads of salmon is that it really only lasts one whole day in the refrigerator before needing to be eaten or frozen. And according to the culinary masters, the texture of a defrosted salmon is just not quite the same as the fresh one.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that SeaBear, a company based in the Pacific Northwest, has developed something so convenient and innovative that it will change the way we eat salmon! Fisherman and salmon smoker Tom created the Gold Seal pouch, a vacuum sealed “TakeAnywhere” sachet that preserves the salmon naturally, keeping it fresh without even needing to be refrigerated! The salmon is cooked in the pouch so the flavor is intense and the moistness is preserved. What could be more convenient (and delicious) than wild Alaskan sockeye salmon that you can pack in your lunchbox or hiking pack?
