Dr. Kellyann’s Bone Broth Diet – Book Review
Dr. Kellyann Petrucci
Overview of Book:
A 21-day plan, including recipes, for losing weight and keeping it off based Dr. Kellyann’s successes with patients at her clinic.
Who This Book is For:
Anyone who wants to lose weight quickly following a diet that’s high in nutrients and eating mostly low carb Paleo foods. Bone broth combined with fasting on several days is encouraged to speed up the weight loss process and to ensure you’re not hungry during the fasting days.
Chapter 11 – Develop a SLIM Mind-Set to Keep Extra Pounds Off.
This chapter is my favorite because it explains how a healthy mindset can really help you lose weight and keep it off. While we focus a lot on our physical well-being, there’s been a decrease in focus on our mental well-being and this chapter addresses it straight on. So, I’m really grateful to Dr. Kellyann for including this chapter in her book.
As Dr. Kellyann points out, when you dig a little deeper with anyone experiencing food issues, there’s always some other issue there too. So being mentally healthy can play a huge part in keeping the pounds off.
“We are also spiritual and energetic beings… If you are in an unhealthy environment, your body will adapt by creating illness.” (page 265)
And to help everyone create their own what she calls the “SLIM environment,” she provides 7 great strategies in that chapter. As with anything that goes to the root of a problem, it’s not a fast fix but something to work on over time.
Top 3 Recipes:
The book also comes with a huge number of bone broth recipes and other recipes to help you on Dr Kellyann’s bone broth diet.
And while bone broth might sounds like a weird diet to you, Dr. Kellyann is really recommending what I would consider as an excellent and very practical Paleo diet (she even recommends avoiding dairy and legumes) with added emphasis placed on drinking bone broth (which I think of as a magic elixir) and fasting. So, I fully believe that Dr. Kellyann’s diet would help a lot of people lose weight.
Also, I love Dr. Kellyann’s emphasis on fermented foods like kimchi and coconut kefir, and I appreciate her practical approach to dieting e.g., by allowing a few types of clean protein powders (it really just makes life easier to have a protein shake for some occasional meals).
Since all the recipes in the book are Paleo, it was tough trying to choose just 3 favorites to write about, but I think the following 3 give you a good flavor for what’s in the book (all of them are very useable, use easy-to-find ingredients, and are pretty easy to make).
1. Fish Bone Broth – this is highly popular in Asian cultures and really nutritious, so it’s great that Dr. Kellyann has included a recipe for making it.
2. Baked Scotch Eggs – these are nice and easy to make and it offers an alternative way of eating eggs.
3. Tuna Stuffed Tomatoes – I love how easy and flavorful this recipe is.
I hope Dr. Kellyann’s book will help add bone broth to the diets of more people and help them regain their health.
