After being gluten-free and grain-free for over 10 years, I have tried my fair share of grain free bread that didn’t live up to the hype. All of them touted that they were the perfect replacement for “regular” bread, but each always ended up being a disappointment – too dry, too dense, indistinguishable from cardboard. You get the idea. So, when given the opportunity to try out the Everyday Bread from AWG Bakery, my expectations for a positive experience weren’t set very high. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
AWG’s Everyday Bread is available in a 6-inch round that weighs roughly a pound and gives you about 12 slices, depending on how thick you slice it. A deliciously pleasant blend of organic, real food ingredients like arrowroot, almond, coconut and psyllium husk powders, black chia seeds, maple syrup and olive oil, each slicce provides 4g of fiber and just 8g net carbs (with less than a gram of sugar). If you can’t do eggs, don’t worry, it doesn’t contain any. Not only does this make it ideal for folks with a more vegan lean, it lends a much better texture and taste to the bread – no overpowering “eggy” taste or texture you find in a lot of other grain-free breads here.
While the Everyday Bread has an outstanding texture and “feel” to it on its own (similar to a good sourdough), like most grain-free breads, it is better toasted. When very lightly toasted, I found it had a deliciously pleasant chew and crumb to it and was ideal for sandwiches, BLTs, dipping in olive oil and vinegar, even French toast. My kids enjoyed more than a couple PB&Js when “helping” with testing. Toasting longer transformed it into the perfect vehicle for ghee and honey at breakfast, avocado toast or bruschetta.
Further demonstrating the care and thoughtfulness that AWG puts into all aspects of their products, their packaging is 100% compostable. The bags are derived from sustainable wood pulp and made up of 90+% biomatter. They also don’t contain any BPAs or phthalates. This attention to detail, and the drive to ensure their products are not only healthy for customers, but also for the planet, shows what a forward thinking, pioneering company AWG Bakery is.
AWG’s products are delicious and produced with obvious care from start to finish. Their Everyday Bread is one of the best grain-free breads I’ve ever tried. Made with real, clean ingredients you can feel good about eating, I have no doubt it will be a hit with anyone – gluten-free or not.
