How to Live Forever (or Just 42% Longer)…

It’s hard to believe that much fo anything could possibly lower our risk of dying by 42%.

That’s a lot. A whole lot.

However, researchers in London recently conducted a study that apparently showed that eating at least 7 servings of fruits and vegetables per day reduced the overall death rate of participants by 42%.

I’m writing about this study because it’s a good study, but also because it displays how even scientists are still thinking about nutrition in an odd way.

THEY GOT A FEW THINGS RIGHT


how to live longerAs you know, I’m a big fan of fruits and vegetables. They’re real, whole foods, and humans have been eating them in a healthy way for more than 2 million years.

I LOVE that researchers are still doing studies to prove the health benefits of fruits and vegetables. It’s clearly better than trying to prove that we all need more prescription drugs (although there is certainly a place for that research).

I think the world would be a much healthier and happier place if we all ate more fruits and vegetables – and if everyone around the world had access to fresh fruits and vegetables.

BUT THEY ALSO MISSED THE POINT

This study was good, but it was flawed.

They tried to account for a number of factors (like exercise, smoking, etc.), but they didn’t account for the most obvious factor.

If you’re not eating at least 7 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, then the likelihood is that you’re eating more processed grains and sugar.


And you’re probably just generally eating more processed food.

None of that means that fruits and vegetables aren’t good for us. They are. But a lot of that 42% lower risk of death is inevitably from avoiding toxic foods.

Maybe none of this matters to you. But here’s why the study still matters. Regardless of whether it’s the fruits and vegetables or the elimination of processed foods, it’s an easy solution to get to that 42%.

Do both.

I’m not perfect in this regard, but my diet today would be unrecognizable (in a good way) to me just 10 years ago. And I feel better than ever.
