Liven up your ground turkey with this spicy tomato sauce and pair with spiralized sweet potato “noodles” for a delicious mid-week dinner that the whole family will enjoy. It’s easy to make, and leftovers will be perfect for lunch the next day or a freezer meal for another day.

For the Turkey Sauce

  • 2 TBSP coconut oil
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 red chili, finely chopped
  • 1 (28-oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 5 oz red wine
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 4 sprigs fresh thyme, leaves only
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For the Noodles

  • 2 TBSP coconut oil
  • 4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and spiral cut

For Garnish

  • 3 TBSP fresh cilantro, chopped


  1. Heat the coconut oil in a large skillet set over high heat. Add the turkey and cook, stirring to break up any large pieces, until almost cooked through.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, and red chili pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions start to soften, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the tomatoes, wine, red pepper flakes, basil, oregano, thyme, and a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Stir to combine. Turn heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 45 minutes.
  4. When the sauce is almost done, make the sweet potato noodles. Heat the coconut oil in a large skillet set over high heat. Add the sweet potatoes and cook, tossing occasionally, for 4-5 minutes, or until cooked and soft.
  5. Pour a spoonful of the turkey meat sauce over a helping of sweet potato noodles.
