In 2010, I tried being a vegetarian for 6 months. It was an interesting experience (although I never gave up fish so perhaps you could say I only dabbled in pescaterianism). The biggest issue for me was the lack of that ‘fullness’ feeling after a meal.

Sure, I was still eating carbs, which would mean a fleeting feeling of satiety at least. But to make that the satiety last longer, I had to depend on other sources of protein. My favorite one? NUTS! Almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, you name it. Even better if they were roasted and slightly salty and all mixed together in a tasty bag o’ trail mix.

Whether you’ve gone vegetarian, slow-carb, no-carb or Paleo, nuts are an important contributor to your protein intake. And for Paleo people, they are a crucial tool in substituting some less healthy ingredients in otherwise gluten-heavy recipes.

Almond flour (aka almond meal) works great as a substitute for wheat flour (as you’ve probably seen, almond flour is used in a lot of Paleo bread, dessert, and snack recipes). Louise and Jeremy always have some stocked in their kitchen – so stock up here!
